I have a 2005 Yukon XL 6.0 with a leaking rear seal at the front end of main drive shaft. Best info I can find says I have a opt NR3 variation. There apparently is no way to R/R just the seal. I found an online source: ALLUSEDPARTS.COM where they have many used ones available at all sorts of price points. There is one close to me for $176 all in. Seems like a no brainer. Anyone know of this web store? Anyone ever removed and replaced a Transfer Case without dropping and crushing their chest?

As another item, I've replaced many parts over the last two years, but can't seem to keep up with the rust removal issue. Is it time to find another ride? I really like the way this year vehicle rides/handles. I don't tow but once or twice a year lighter stuff. I use the XL as a cheaper truck, as can fit 4x8 sheets inside. I'm wondering if 2012-14 is a good year group to look at. I've got 235,000 miles and some computer stuff is having cranky memory issues. Rather than keep fixing more and more, perhaps I should find a newer model to fix stuff on...

Thanks!

You might get away with simply shimming your existing seal. From experience with two trucks (non-Tahoe/Yukon), the housing for the transfer case deforms over time, causing the seal to not firmly seal. Eventually it gets caught by the shaft and knocked loose. If you shim it properly, it will seal and stay in place. We had to take our Sierra back to the transmission shop three times, but the silverado only once.
