I'm working on a 2006 Chevy Tahoe. I have been getting both the Service 4wd message along with the Stability Control Deactivated message. After reading a number of articles I decided to replace a couple of things in hopes of just making the problem go away. I replaced the selector switch in the dash...no joy. Next I attempted to replace the Transfer Case Motor. I removed the old and connected the wiring for the new but did not put the new one in place yet. I just wanted to index it to the same position as the car was parked in. The car was parked in 2wd so I turned on the key and selected 2wd (the new motor appears to be in 4wd-low). The light in the 2wd button flashed for a while then nothing. I turned the key off and back on. It still appeared to be in 4wd-low. I read some articles on "waking up" the transfer case module. I tried removing the TREC fuse for 30 seconds and replacing it but nothing. I re-installed the original transfer case motor and the switches indicate it's in 2wd. Immediately after re-installing the old one, both messages were back. I took it for a test drive, shut it down, and fired it up again a little alter. Now the messages are gone. I'm thinking the transfer case module might be out but seems odd that the messages come and go. Does anyone have any experience with this problem and would you be able to suggest some next steps?
