2006 Tahoe with 160000 on the clock. Bought new and never towed until recently. Successfully towed a popup camper (3500#) to FL-GA, no issues.

On the road from GA-CA, towing the popup, about 1000 miles in heard a whine from the tranny in D , tow button engaged. Happens only in D and light positive throttle. Let off , quiet, hard accel, drops a gear like normal , quiet.

Fluid is clean and cool. Have an obd-II being overnighted to my next stop.

It has quieted down quite a bit in the last 75 miles of today's drive.

Just wanting to hear if anybody has seen/heard this.

Thanks

Are you sure is coming from the trans? My old 06 Silverado had a simular situation. Mine ended up being a leak in a power steering line that wasn't losing fluid, just foaming the fluid. It didn't make sense to me, I only heard the noise when cruising or light throttle accel. Not saying it is or isn't but another thing to check.

Check your fluid level. If it is low, you might need to add a little fluid. What was the ambient temperature at the location at the time where/when you had the issues? What is the ambient temperature today where you are?

It was a little low, I added about 1/2 qt.
Ambient was 60f, nice and cool.

If 4wd, check front diff. Front diff whine under light throttle at about 45mph...carrier bearings. Many posts on the subject. Hopefully just low tranny fluid. Getting Bluetooth obd with torque app is good idea to check tranny temps etc.
