I have a 2006 Chevy Tahoe 4WD. My problem began last night while driving approx 45-50mph my transmission seemed to slip twice. No loud noises, and it only occured the 2 times. Today, I get in and try to back out of my parking spot and I suddenly have no reverse. It operates without issue in drive and I dont appear to have lost any other gears. I have seen a ton of material on issues similar to this so far but cant find any consistancy with what the actual problem is. The tahoe tripped 80,000 miles 2 days ago and I have had no major issues until now. I plan on getting it into a shop tomorrow or the next day but I would like to know what im in store for. HELP!!!

Welcome to the neighborhood!

Sounds to me like you may have lost a solenoid in the tranny, what you may have felt was possibly the reverse solenoid going out while you were going down the road interrupting the flow of fluid just enough to cause that "slip"? As a result you do not have reverse. But that is just a guess, did it throw any codes at all? CEL on?

I say if you can swing it, replace it if there is ANYTHING wrong with it, the reman units are coming with a 300K mile warranty now, no sense spending money more than once.

If it is the reverse solenoid and thats all I replace, what would that run me for parts, labor, ect.? Approximately of course. Also, I dont have any way to know if there are any codes and (forgive me for being clueless haha) whats the CEL ?

If it is that solenoid you would need the solenoid, about 12 quarts of tranny fluid just to drop the pan and replace the fluid, a tranny filter and about 3-4 four hours labor.

The tranny fluid depends on the brand you choose but overall that and the filter shouldn't cost more than $50-100 or so.

For the solenoid, you can find a full solenoid kit for your tranny similar to the link below.

As for the labor, that just depends on the shop, any reputable qualified shop will charge anywhere from $80-125 an hour for tranny work.

Doing the math you may be in it for somewhere around $600 or so (guesstimated).
