follow along on my thread if you like.
Hi all, introduction and starting a thread for my Yukon XL Denali 1500 6.0 repairs and maintainence.
The wife and I decided to upsize from our lexus 400h as we were having kid#3 and it was either minivan or sub/yukxl.
Seeing as i didnt want to grow a *** we went with the yukon xl. In all seriousness though, my wife wanted nothing to do with a minivan and neither did i. we both grew up in a family of 5 and we both had subs so it was pretty easy for us to rationlize it. fuel economy be dammed. we are in the oil business and we like to support our industry lol. the 18 l/100k doesnt bother me.
Now onto the car. We paid 5000 for it, cad$, and its the loaded denali xl. 2006, last of that gen. Everything works on the truck, which is amazing. It has 300k klm on it. Now i know some of you will be *gasp* i cant beleive you are hauling your family in a 300k klm car....meh. The engine checks out a-ok, although it had a fee leaks. All this stuff is easy to fix, with time and a safe way to get under the car. Id rather have a high k car with all new wear items that a mid k car with none of those items replaced!!
I find it pretty amazing actually, we have driven toyota, lexus, and now this chev and they are all very nice vehicles, .....as long as they are maintained. One reason we bought the 06 is because the trucks are old enough to have a huge forum archive of all the kinks and idiosyncrocies about the cars worked out and ID'd. Making a repair or maintainence job pretty much just a google and youtube away. Meanwhile, we Have no debts, are not hemmirGing money to depreciation and interest, and have an amazing family moving rig to boot.
So far, we have never had any major issues like spun bearings etc. Just seals, gaskets, etc.
Anyway, onto the first maintainence job, water pump gaskets were leaking.
Wow was this easy!!!! the only other car ive done a waterpump on was my 85 vette and that was a nightmare. replaced the paper gaskets with felpro and no more drip.
Its been leaking for a while, engine block very gunked up.
In the process i hit the undercarriage with purple power degreaser and rinsed 2 min later. did this twice.
i have an oil leak somewhere. new drip from the pan drain bolt overnight. so fixed one leak and found another.
From my research i see its likely the
rear main or
drain bolt
or oil sensor oring
or pan gasket
any others?
ill be hooking up the hose to hot water tank and getting really clean under there then dialing it in.
i did oil change when we bought in december. went to quaker defy high mileage.
ill come back and post pics as soon as i get an easy picture hosting app that i can link straight to on my iphone. the other forum i frequent is corvetteforum and they allow me to ipload images from my phone direct, nice and easy.
