Ok guys took the Yukon to the mechanic today. This is a “complete” list of everything he says the truck needs. Mind you I just moved from NY to NJ so this is not my usual guy. I’d appreciate any input and or advice.

That's more than my GM dealer quoted me for mine. A cursory glance tells me that almost every line contains at least $100 of profit over parts and labor. What about the transmission?

Exactly how would the loose parking brake be repaired for $120? If the shoes are bad or a cable needs replacing it could cost a lot more than $120 to do the repair. If a nuts needs turning, that's a tidy profit for 2 minutes worth of work.

As for the air filter, you can buy those off ebay or Amazon for less than half and have a high capacity filter that will last for 50k miles, the A3085C (original PN#).

Plugs and wires cost me $112 2 years ago so how many hours to replace #8, the rest are so easy, my daughters did them!

If your set on having someone else complete the work, now go to a GM dealer and get an estimate.

When I see prices like that, it makes me glad that I can do most of that stuff myself. Most shops around where I’m at have rates of $100-$150/hr.

Exactly, I only use GM or ACDelco parts/fluids too and they're not that expensive. He just wants you only to make his next mortgage payment!

I taught my daughter how to change the master cylinder on our other vehicle and she was amazed that the going rate to replace it was over $300 and SHE did it herself in less than an hour.

Glad that Matt is here, didn't know this fellow 2500 owner is close by.

Check out Sabo Automotive in Hamilton. Good friends of mine, we actually worked at the same shop for a long time before I went on to a desk job, and they started their own shop.

And if you're interested in trying to do some of this yourself, we can walk you through most of it..... and I'm close enough to help in a pinch (though I barely have time to work on my own these days, still have spark plugs and diff fluids on my work bench waiting to go in )
