Haven't had much time to work on the xl but will try to get the pass side head off today and remove pulley to get front cover off. Have been doing steady research on which repair procedure and i think im leaning towards the DELETE kit. would rather not have issues down the road as i am still unsure of the motor condition. My thoughts with 300k on the body is the motor may have been swapped already, don't know. Would like to remove any known issues, replace what could be a issue later while motor is apart, like new oil pump and o-ring, push rods as i already have a bent one and gaskets/seals. If heads look okay i will just clean up valves and install. One question i have for you guys is what DOD kit do you prefer? Should i just build a parts list of gm parts and source them myself or are aftermarket companies pretty good to trust? There is one site that has caught my attention it is called LSXCELERATION. Has anyone heard or dealt with them before? They have a delete kit which you can customize parts you may or may not want. Full basic kit comes to 499.00 and that is including a GM 1 bolt non-afm cam. Most parts are listed as GM but I will have to contact them to verify they are actually GM parts, other options is ebay and im not sure of what id be getting with them either. Thanks in advance, very much appreciated!

Here’s a few photos to show the progress on my 2007 xl lc9 AFM delete. I am hoping to have it back together by Sunday before the weather gets crappy here in Pittsburgh,PA. All parts are GM factory components and things I have replaced are oil pump, cam gear crank gear and timing chain assembly. Replaced valve springs, valve seals , and push rods. Lapped the valves and although the exhaust valves were pitted I cleaned all carbon off with wire wheel, lapped and put it together. Engine had a lot of carbon build up but I think will be just fine, with the unknowns of the engine and history I felt getting a valve job wouldn’t be the best idea. Maybe I was wrong? We will see. I do have a few questions for anyone who has done this job before.
1. How would I go about priming this engine before starting? I did oil the pump before installing but want to make sure I do this right as it’s mt first engine tear down.
2. For the dod valley used in the delete is it best for me to leave the little filter screen out? Or should I install it?
3. The truck was hit in front and pushed the plastics in and also pushed in condenser, I see there is a trans cooler but it has been disconnected from system and lines run right to rad. I plan on buying new rad but want to know if i should consider buying new cooler and adding it back in? I don’t normally tow or haul much with the 04 I have now but have had my share of 60e issues. What is your take on this?
Truck had a bent upper control arm on pass side that has been fixed with a moog replacement. Was told that hit caused the roof airbags to go off, anybody know anything about replacing or the computer process of getting airbags straightened out please feel free to comment. Thanks everyone! This site has been great on educating me on DOD Delete and my new 07 truck project. Going to be selling my 04 once it’s done and also now have the confidence to do a full rebuild on my ls1 block for my 92 camaro after digging into this lc9.

Figured I’d post this pic of cam bearing, maybe someone with some experience with these motors could say what condition it’s looks like. I’ve found on other forums this isn’t something to go crazy over so I didnt worry. Tell me what your thoughts are.

I'd say that cam bearing is wiped out if that is copper showing through and not mud! Gotta pull the motor to replace the cam bearings.
