I own a black 2007 Yukon SLT with 170,000 kms (105,000 mi) and live in northwestern Ontario in Canada, in which winters are notoriously ******* vehicles. The drivers' side passenger door has had rust along the edge of the wheel well for some time, and i had it repaired at the local GM dealer a few years ago. It is now back and getting alot worse. Also i noticed that the bottom of the tail gate is starting to rust and peel badly as well. Snow likes to build up there in the winter. Other than that, the car is mechanically in excellent condition as is the interior. My wife and I both love it. My question is, do i repair this again along with the tail gate or do i go to a wrecker and try to find a donor door and tail gate?

Have you taken a good look at the chassis underneath. I suspect that is where your rust issues really are

Get a new door and tailgate. Take it from a guy that's lived in the rust belt his whole life, it will comeback if you don't replace the panel.

You could cut it out until you find good metal than use a coating like por15, but I've had rust come back through that. Your best bet is new panels and to wax the hell out of it when it's warm outside.

If it were my truck, I'd replace the door and gate. I'd also take a look under the truck and see what it looks like under there.

As mentioned, after making the necessary repairs, keep up on cleaning, waxing, sealing, etc. Good care and maintenance will help extend the life of the body.
