This is a question for all the Yukon XL and Surburban owners.... After driving for about 15 or 20 mins I stop at a stop light and as I set there in about 2 mins it sounds like the sheet metal on the roof pops right above the 2nd row passenger side seat. It seems to only happen after you stop after driving it at least 15 mins. It has never been wrecked. The roof racks are tight. It is driving me nuts because it is loud enough for a car beside you with their windows up for them to look over when it happens! Does any one have this same issue or has anyone heard of it before? I have called all my local dealerships Chevy/GMC and they act like I have lost my mind and have never heard of anything like it! Please Help! Thanks, Davey

do you see any damage up top? Maybe something fell and caused a ding up there.

No, there in not even the first ding, dent, nothing up there. Wish I could say it was ice but it has been doing this for several months now, before it even got cold...

I would strap a video camera to your roof and drive around for a bit. Maybe you can see it

Well since the only thing up there is the racks, id say remove those and see if the noise is still there. Then install one at a time to see if its one side or the other that causes the noise

Are you SURE it's the roof making noise, and not something elsewhere that only sounds like it's coming from the roof? I'd bet there's a chance it's not coming from the roof. Sounds in these trucks are hard to pinpoint, I think.

Has someone riding in the rear confirmed that the noise is from the roof?

My wife has heard it and she thinks it is coming from the same spot. It is defintly coming from the roof. I will have to take the roof racks off and see.

Is the sheet metal doubled on the roof? maybe a welds broke....? and the cold and hot making the metel expand and contract....haha i have no clue just trying to make since of all this. My mother and father have owned 6 surburbans since the mid 80s and never had an issue. now i buy one and now I have an issue....:emotions122:

My first suggestion is to have someone actually ride in the seat you mentioned. When stopped have them put their fingers out the window and lightly rest on the roof and wait. If it is the roof popping they will be able to pinpoint it much better and also if it is the outside "skin" they will be able to feel it. If it is a structural "stiffing" support it should not be as evident to the feel. Keep us posted.

I have a Jeep Cherokee that does that too, but it's right above the drivers seat. I never have been able to figure it out.
