NO, that is why it is called a "catch can" the oil is captured in the can then you periodically dispose of it as it fills up.
Ah ok, I mean I can see the benefit of that as far as carbon build up goes but Ideally I’d like to remedy the issue of the oil being vaporized and pulled into the intake. Seems that would solve both problems

has nothing to do with carbon in the throttle body, this specifically captures the oil vapors before it gets into the intake, although it is not a fix-all it can help a lot.

yes, done this because of the oil consumption problem. My next step was going to be to have the flex fuel deleted.
How do you delete the flex fuel capability and why? Just stick with conventional (87-93 octane) gas and don't use Ethanol fuel

if you really wanted to remove it probably change the injectors, fuel pump, and I think there is a sensor, kind of the opposite of adding flex fuel, but this wouldn't affect oil consumption, i don't think anyways.

Don't know why someone would go through the expense and hassle of deleting it though.

Maybe the OP meant AFM? Does 2008 have AFM?

I think it does (some specific models may not though), or the hardware was there but it wasn't activated yet, etc. I guess it depends on the specific engine model from what I have read.

That's what I figured he meant, too.

There’s a deflector for a pressure relief valve located on the oil pan. Supposedly this is another remedy to the oil consumption.

I helped my brother change out his oil pan pick-up tube o-ring, oil pan gasket, rear main seal, and install this deflector on his 2007 Tahoe. He used to go through about 1/2 a quart every few days, but now no leaks, no oil consumption and his AFM activates a lot more to help his mpg.

I suspect that deflector helps prevent vaporized oil from reaching the valve cover.

ok, so no smoke, no problems, no noises... factor valve covered changed out. 2 oil changes later I check the oil before the next change is needed and it isn’t even on the stick. What is wrong with darn thing?!

So, your '08 already consumed X amount of oil, but is now consuming MORE since installing the updated valve cover? Sounds screwy to me.

From what I understand, that deflector shrouds the port where the oil is sprayed back into the pan when the AFM activates to bleed down the lifters. Disabling AFM so it doens't activate would mean no high-pressure oily spray, right?

yes, done this because of the oil consumption problem. My next step was going to be to have the flex fuel deleted.

Deleting FlexFuel programming would have no effect on the AFM or oil consumption.

Thats what I was looking at. I have a question on this though. Catching the oil before going into the intake is good but how is it being recirculated back into the engine? Is it something you have to empty back into the engine periodically?

It doesn't get recirculated back into the engine. It scrubs the oil out of the pressurized (vacuum) vapors flowing from the valve cover to the intake manifold. If the drain of the catch can were tied into, say, the oil pan, then it'd be sucking vapors and maybe even oil straight out of the oil pan instead of through the normal PCV route through the valve cover. The point is just to catch the oil and hold it in the reservoir so it's not going into the intake manifold to be sucked into the cylinders and burned off. You can always drain the catch can periodically and pour the oil back into the engine through the filler neck if the catch can fills up rather quickly.

There are many catch can designs. To me, they all look like they'd work the same except for the crappy ones that don't have a baffle and look like they rely solely on gravity to separate the oil from the air which is a VERY inefficient method. I really like the $15-$20 ones on Amazon except they have only a 3 ounce capacity. I have a catchcans.com one on mine and think it's design is just as good as any other (just not as fancy). I added a stainless scrubber pad to it to make it even more efficient. I bought the $15, 3-ounce one off Amazon for my brother's '06 Sierra since his shouldn't have much of an oily PCV issue. I added the stainless scrubber to his as well.
