Hanging around the bonfire my friends and I got to talking about swapping the 5.7 gas engine in a Tahoe for a 5.9 cummins. at first thought it sounds awesome! much better mpg, plenty of power, and come on its diesel. pending on many hours of research and planning I wouldn't mind actually doing it. would love to hear anyones thoughts on this. pros? cons? concerns?

I suppose it'd be a Tahoe version of the Duraburb. I'm guessing the cost would offset any fuel saving, unless one drives 100K miles a year. I dunno enough about it to be honest to say for sure.

5.7? If it's 00+ it should be a 5.3, maybe a few years earlier I can't remember for sure. I wouldn't put a diesel in a half ton, the duraburbs are 2500 suburbans.

I'd assume you'd probably want to drop the escalade 14 bolt rear end in that Tahoe at least to take the power because the 10 bolt would definitely crumble.

I wouldn't think the frame, suspension, our the axle/s would hold up.

Duraburb has an SS line of trucks that are based on Tahoes/Yukons. They do more than just 2500s.

ETA: Shorter wheelbase, lighter weight, plus DM and Ally trans = wicked fast trucks. If I had an extra 20k laying around, I'd rock one of them in a heartbeat.
