Yea everyone, I test drove an 2009 LTZ, 4x4, 5.3, 6-speed, w/ tow package this weekend (with 3 adults in the truck). The only thing that had me concerned with the test drive was that the shift points seemed to be odd when under prolonged acceleration. When in city driving it seemed to be just fine, but when trying to get on the highway from a rolling start it seemed to have a hard time getting there. My jeep takes just as long or longer on that on ramp, but seemed to shift better, smother.

I am just trying to figure out if this is normal, something that a tune can fix (while not hurting mpg), or if this is something to work about?

Thanks for any input you may have!

I think a tune would help. Firmer shifting is definitely a plus of the BlackBear Performance Tune.

1. It's normal.
2. I don't think it's right, either.
3. Yes, a tune can help.

I miss the smooth shifting of my '02 Tahoe...

Thanks for the input.

I spoke with a coworker and he said that his Chevy would do the same thing, it was downshifting 2 gears instead of one. I have another friend that has an 2009 Avalanche with the same powertrain, so i am going to drive his a little bit tonight to see if it is the same.

Good Ole GM Torque Management...

Get yourself a decent tune from Blackbear and eliminate that Torque Management. Doesn't necessarily make it FIRM, just loses that lag. Quicker shifts. You can elect to have them firmer, but don't think that a Blackbear tune is just for performance. There are alot of choices if you decide to go that route, hit them up. :Handshake:

Well the Avalanche was the same as the Tahoe, so I am not worried about that anymore (just guess I will have to call BB if i want to do something about it). Now all I have to do is make sure that I am ok with the price ;) thanks for the help!

You will find that the tranny is a little odd from a rolling start. Like making a left in traffic, if you are rolling and stomp it to get through a hole in traffic, it may respond slower than you would expect. Can be a little scary. BB tune corrected this. Before the tune I learned to NOT be rolling when I was going to need a full power launch.

Ghoster -- What did you tell Justin @ BB to do to eliminate this? I had to ditch my Volant because I couldn't clear the latest codes it was throwing, so I need a new stock-set-up tune from Justin and would like to ask him to make the same kind of tune (assuming you like it).

Thanks!
