I have a 09 tahoe z71 v8 5.3 with 38k miles using 87 octane fuel and I am seeing around 10.5mpg and 14-15mpg on the highway-long trips...Is this normal? I think the city should be higher. No mods and normal driving conditions. 4wd set to 2wd (not auto). Any suggestions on how to increase?

I was getting much better mileage than that when I was stock and I have the 4L60E 4-speed tranny (assume you have the new 6-speed). I also have the 4.10 diff gearing and it has been discussed that this keeps helps keep the truck in v4 mode more often/longer. From memory I was getting ~16 mpg city and ~19 mpg highway at 70 mph.

Are you going by the DIC or hand calculating mileage? Which final drive ratio do you have? Did you change out the transfer case and diff fluids yet?

IMO Black Bear tune will help out. See their website and search this and other forums. I had mine tuned after the level kit and larger mud tires, and gained the mpgs. Some of that I attribute to speedometer correction for the larger tires. After the tune it is hard to keep off the skinny pedal though!

Everything is stock. I am going by the DIC and I have not had the diff or transfer case fluids changed (to my knowledge). i bought the vehicle with 36k on it about 4 months ago.

70-75mph on the highway...i'm more concerned with the city though. That is the majority of my driving.

I know it is really hard... but driving at 60-65 works wonders.

I do that to offset my bad city MPG.

From my CB Radio.

Shit, I get about 9ish towing a 7x14 race trailer loaded with a few motorcycles and a ton of gear, parts and tools.....and that's with my 2011 Suburban Z71.

Around town I get about 12 to 13mpg and 17+ on the highway.
