2010 Burb z71 Rear axle replacement??

i accidently kept my 2010 burb z71 in 4wd high after leaving boat ramp and drove 30minutes home. ussually i can tell its in 4wd when turning but i didnt notice anything while towing. then a week later the rearend is locking up and making a loud sound when unlocking. my shop says it needs replacing or rebuilt which they dont do.
did that one incident ruin my diff??

not likely, if anything you might have put more wear on the front tires when turning

shop quoted 2400 for used axle. found a rebuild guy and dropped it off there. we'll see what he says.

Used are less than half that and new ones are about that last time I looked. Leaving it in 4HI did not cause it, it was probably getting tired and pulling the boat out of the water probably did it in.

This is the time to swap in a 9.5" (AXN) semi-floater from a 2WD SUV with the 6.2 or a 4x4 with the 6.2 (rare).

I think my Express van has that rear in it. Pretty sure I saw a paper tag on the rear with AXN on it. That possible James?

Sure is possible. Check the RPO sheet too. There are two types, coils and leaf springs.

$2,400 for used is outrageous. You’ll need to get it diagnosed first, but no need to replace everything if just the gears are shot.

i found a rear end specialist and he rebuilt it for $1250 he didnt have much good to say about the design of these newer models. there just no built to last as long

I'm doing this tomorrow. I found an axle by vin code at the auto recycling yard for $290.
