Finally decided on what brakes and suspension, so now it is time to turn to the powertrain. Goals are to be quicker than my previous rig…I just can’t step backwards. From zeroto60times.com this means I need to be better than 4.5 to 60 and 13 sec in the quarter. I’d actually like more as that seemed rather mundane when I sold the truck.

This will be a daily driver, it will see snow, and it will be driven by me for another 100k miles. That being said, I don’t really want to do the engine 2x. Currently the truck has 90k miles on it, so a refresh is in order. This brings up a secondary goal. Build time needs to be somewhat quick as downtime costs me a rental.

My thought was to buy a short block. Building one adds to the down time and I am sure that someone would be interested in mine. This would allow me to make the bottom end robust enough for whatever I decide to throw at it. Seems like $6-7k gets you a rather robust LSx with forged components.

To help the breathing I am currently leaning towards a Turbo kit (KB or Trick). Thinking about this so I can have a boost controller in the dash with two different settings. Daily and F@% Yeah! Figure this would also give me the most flexibility in tuning boost and shifting so that the 6L80 has some hope of surviving. I’ve also owned a couple Centrifugal cars and am not ultra keen on the whine for a daily driver. I have yet to own a PD Charged car though.

Questions at hand are really how far do I need to go on the short block and is my choice of FI logical? I’ve searched all over here and a plethora of other forums, but haven’t found answers that make me feel confident to call it a decision.

For these larger vehicles, getting the instant TQ from a supercharger is worth looking into.

Once I turn up the wick isn't that also a lot harder on the transmission and everything else?

Curious to how much more lag the turbo will have. Ideal world I could drive both first, lol.

These 6spds are pretty stout. As long as you keep up the maintenance, and are conscious of when you hit the skinny pedal, I don't see there being any issues.
