2010 Suburban with Transmission problems

Hello everyone
This is my first post here on the forum, so please excuse me if this is not the right place to post.
Long story short, bought a used 10 suburb with 110k miles on it 6 months ago. Upon inspection, i noticed that the transmission fluid was brand new and the previous owners assured me that he kept maintenance and service a priority.
The issue started a month or so back, the car would jerk when shifting, sometimes also taking longer than usual and having to rev the engine pretty high in order for the tranny to shift. Took it to a shop, had it diagnosed. The only code in the engine appeared to be a p0573 (brake switch)
The transmission control module came back with 4 codes: P0842, P0872, P0877, P0898.
The shop wanted to tear apart the transmission and gave me an estimate of around 1.5 to 3k USD
Figured I would ask here first, the last thing I would wanna do is start tearing things apart. Also, can the faulty break switch be causing all this stuff?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Not the brake switch doing that but do verify your brake lamps are working.

You’ve got enuf to go back to the seller and let em know you took the truck to the same place he did and they recognized the Burb and pulled up the following codes.

Play ♥️ ♦️ ♣️ poker with him. He gotcha on a known bad trans after the trans service he did, didn’t fix it.

Ask for 1-$1.5k back or a promise note from him on the spot already written out for him to sign or you’ll call your brother in law who is a cop.


Again, play poker and see what happens. You’ll need about 3-$4k when it’s all said and done.

From there give yourself a pat on the back because you’re good for about 100k miles on the new trans in one of the most highly sought after, otherwise reliable trucks.

Unfortunately, that won’t work where I live. I’m in Dubai and people here aren’t quite as “forgiving” to say the least as people in the US
So, I’m guessing the trans is toast, huh? I honestly have no idea how big or small of a job this could be, but from what you’re saying, the transmission needs replacement?

All those TCM codes indicate temp sensor & pressure switch failures - the trans temp sensor and pressure switches are integrated into the TEHCM (transmission electronic hydraulic control module) so that, at minimum, needs to be replaced. You may or may not have clutch damage as a result of the TEHCM going bad. Drop the pan and see what's at the bottom...If the fluid is dark, has burnt clutch material or metal, put the pan back on with a few bolts and yank it out for overhaul.

Expect to pay somewhere between 4-5k for the rebuild plus whatever the shop wants to take it out and put it back, fluid, line flushing, cooler cleaning and fast adapt relearn

All this assumes you have a 6L80. If you have a 4L60E, costs will be a lot less.

There are a lot of of 07-14 Escalade hanging around the city of gold. Follow the trail to where they go for service and / or salvage for your 6L80 6 speed trans. Manual shift mode will verify its got 6 gears.

Like I said you got a good platform for desert running with the separate & individual front / rear a/c systems.

Would you say that finding a used tranny from a salvaged car would be a better option than rebuilding/fixing the existing transmission?

1.5-3k US is about half of what the going rate is in the States. I’d do the rebuild if the technician has the right person to do it.

A used 2010 trans will need a 2010+ trans to replace it. It all depends on what you can source. You’ll definitely want a new OEM GM torque converter which ever way you go.
