As the title states, only when I turn on the AC under certain conditions, I have an intermittent, but strong, vibration from what I'm guessing is the compressor. As follows:
1.) turn on first thing in the morning...turn on A/C = no vibration
2.) turn on @ lunch after sitting for 2-3 hours...vibration
I almost always turn off the a/c before I turn the vehicle off (to avoid the extra load when starting), so I can definitely rule out stuff like a water pump or ps pump or any other accessory. I'd say the compressor's going bad, but wouldn't it rattle all the time (under load, etc)? Once the a/c is on and it's done it's quick little rattle, it's whisper quiet in the engine bay at idle, under load, etc. Still runs like a dream (at about 110K miles), but it doesn't cool like it should.
