Presently, my 2011 Border Patrol SSV has lt285/70R17 tires and the OEM stock tire should be lt265/70R17. What are the pro's and cons of keeping the bigger tires vs the stock size? BTW I just got this vehicle and I really haven't had a chance to drive it much.

Should feel quicker with smaller tires. I didn't notice going to stock sierra 265/65-17 from stock 18's..
Smaller is usually more of a road tire, might get a higher speed rating..

I'm planning to go 285/70-17 like you have..
Little more ground clearance with the bigger tires.. little wider tread you give little more traction. Little tougher on bearings?

Depends on how & why you drive it.
If you offroad it often enough, seriously consider LT285/70R17, 'ell, maybe even bigger.
If you don't offroad that much, 265/70R17 is one of the most popular / common tire sizes in the country, so the selection of types of tires to choose from will be far greater and (mostly) less costly than more niche tire sizes.
