Hey Guys,
I poked around a little with the search tool, but wasn't coming up with what I was looking for.
Hoping you guys can help.
There's a stock CD head unit from a 2011 Silverado 2500 LTZ being sold locally, and I'm wondering if this is adaptable to my 1999 Tahoe 2dr. I think I could get it for about $50. It looks about the right size.
Mine is still original for the '99 (so all the wiring is, too), and still works fine, but the newer one has an aux port built in which would be handy.

I was thinking that there may be security issues, BCM matching issues, remote amplifier issues, etc...
As you can tell, I know absolutely NOTHING about the factory sound systems in either truck.
Is this even worth considering?

Thanks in advance!

No. COMPLETELY different wiring. It's not just 12v hookup anymore.

unknown at this time.
it is possible but wiring changes will be needed and there is a possibility that some functions on the newer unit may not function afterwards. would need more info on newer radio to find out as there where several options from the factory at the time.

Thanks Sunlit Comet. I've attached photos of the one for sale. Said it was from an ltz , and had aux port, XD, Bluetooth, etc. Do these help?

There's no 12v turn on wire in that radio... It's completely different. The radio uses data from the BCM now instead of the old power and ground like the 2002 and earlier models. That radio also has the VIN number of the vehicle it came out of. To get it to work in a different tahoe/yukon, it will have to be relearned to it's VIN. Obviously, that won't work with a pre 2007 vehicle.

There are many other reasons to, I'm not trying to pull a fast one or anything. I'm just telling you that for the many reasons it will not work, there's plenty of cheaper, easier options.

im going to haft to go with @NathanJax on this one, not to mention the 99 factory opening is not a full double din location. even if you could make it work making it fit and not look like CRAP is going to be a task in its self.

why are u looking to swap? im sure u could find a used aftermarket head unit for the same price

Hey guys, this is enough for me to abandon this idea. I was looking around for an aftermarket head unit when I stumbled across this unit from the newer truck. Thought I would ask if it would even be feasible, and you gents have confirmed my suspicions that this swap is too much trouble.
Will continue my hunt.
In the end I'm looking for a setup that I can use hands free music or calling over Bluetooth. An aux port is also desirable.

Thanks as always.

For sure. I'm not in a hurry, but saw this one for a decent price and thought it was worth asking about. I'm not out to create headaches for myself, so will let this slide to the next guy.
Will keep my eyes open for a good deal... Sometimes things go on sale this time of year. ;-)

I just put one of these in my 99:
http://www.kenwood.com/usa/car/receiver/kmm-bt312u/
It has hands free blutooth, blutooth audio, a front panel USB and aux input and will take a sirius satellite tuner, if you were so inclined. And a bunch of other stuff. The one thing it won't do is play a CD. You can get them almost anywhere for $99. You'll need a kit and harness, of course. The one it replaced had a lot more audio functions, but this one does everything I need it to and everything you asked for.
