Well…..that’s a marvel of GM ingenuity right there. You don’t really need to remove the tire, but it does give you a little more space. “Loosen front wheel lug nuts” should not be part of the process to replace a light bulb.

To do it by the book, yes.So the housing needs to be removed to change the bulb?
Remove the top 2 bolts on the housing. Turn your wheel all the way inward and remove the 1 or 2 7mm screws and as many push pin fasteners from the front of the fender liner as you need to get to the bottom 10mm bolt. It would help to have someone hold up the liner when you reach in there. A power ratchet works best if You have one since there is less arm movement. Wiggle the housing out. I usually have to push down on the bumper cover some to clear it. You can have it out in 10 mins.how do you go about replacing the front running light bulbs
I personally think it is a little easier on the Yukons than on the Tahoe/Suburban, but both are a royal PITA. Compared to the simple design on the NBS models, this was a major step backwards. When I purchased my new-to-me 07 Yukon XL, I replaced my headlights with LEDs, and I found that the previous owner had cut off the tabs on the light housings that connect to the bottom bolt in the wheel well. As a result, I do not have to mess around in the wheel well for that bottom bolt, and the headlight housings are still fully stable.
To remove the light housings, I find it easier to loosen up the bolts on the front nose piece, to allow for as bit more room to maneuver the light housing in and out of the truck body.
