2012 Suburban..Heated steering wheel problem

Hi, I have the exact same symptoms on my '13 Denali. Anyone have any input? I looked over the schematic and the only thing I've deduced that its an internal issue with the heated steering wheel module? Appreciate any input so I can fix this! Thanks

I’ve arrived at the same conclusion, but haven’t had an opportunity to troubleshoot it beyond looking at the schematic. If I do, I’ll provide an updated, until then I was hoping someone else had run into this problem and could provide their solution.

Just wanted to chime in, 2012 Tahoe LTZ here and I'm having the same exact issue as of a couple months ago. Heated wheel works ..... until you start the engine.

I went as far as taking the wheel off, disassembling the entire wheel to get to the control module in the back left side (behind the plastic cover) and opened up the module. Everything looked good, no bad solder joints or obvious signs of damage/blown components. I am at a loss!

I just bought a used Escalade heated steering wheel for practically nothing. I'm gonna tinker with this thing and see if the Escalade wheel works.

I tried to just purchase a whole new steering wheel about a month ago (my P/N is 20998065) and nobody - NOBODY has this wheel available anymore. I called at least 30 different big name dealerships around the US and even a few large OEM parts houses and came up with nothing. Even the guys I spoke with were baffled that nobody, anywhere had these wheels anymore. Plenty of them in other colors though!

Anyway, I'll see what I can figure out and post updates.

You know, I just thought of something. Have any of you had your battery replaced around the same time this started going on?

I remember after getting a new battery is roughly when this started for me.

have a 2012 yukon xl lt2 that has this problem for 7 years now.

I have seen reports of others having this problem elsewhere and in those cases, a new heated steering wheel module fixed the problem. If you have a Tech 2, you should be able to see live data on what's happening with the module. It does depend on certain resistance values, so it's also possible that the clockspring or wiring is creating resistance outside the acceptable parameters, but in any case, here is the module:

That’s good you got it to work 2x. I would be willing to bet that if it’s owner installed it’s not happy with the source that’s powering it or there’s a compatibility issue with the switch pack added to the wheel for on/off.

Hello All,
I just bought a 2012 Suburban LTZ. The heated steering wheel isn’t working correctly. The button wouldn’t light when pressed and no heat on the wheel.

I checked fuse #48 and it’s good. Next I found the 7.5amp inline fuse under the dash, which was good too. After that I turned the key to accessory and the heated steering wheel functioned properly. However, when I turned the engine on the heated steering wheel stopped working. Even if I tried it with engine off the button again it still wouldn’t work.

I pulled the 7.5 amp fuse and reinserted it and once again the heated steering wheel functioned until I turned the engine on.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks.

Hello, I'm having the same problem with my 07 Yukon Denali XL. Heated steering wheel didn't work and cruise control worked intermittently. Installed new clock spring, still have same problem. Found this forum after having already installed the clock spring and checked the heated steering wheel with key on. It works with the key on but not running. Bad switch maybe? Thanks!
