I was only given one FOB when I purchased my 2012 Tahoe. I want to buy a 2nd one as backup. Do I need the Dealer to program it or can I can do it myself????

Thanks

The one I see on EBAY says 2011 and newer needs a Dealer or Automotive Locksmith. Plus the one on EBAY is 15 bucks, compared to $160 give or take from a GM Parts wholesaler.

Redvette,

Only RKE transmitters programmed to this vehicle will work. If a transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement can be purchased and programmed through your dealer.

When the replacement transmitter is programmed to the vehicle, all remaining transmitters must also be reprogrammed. Any lost or stolen transmitters will no longer work once the new transmitter is programmed. The vehicle can have a maximum of eight transmitters programmed to it. See your dealer to program transmitters to the vehicle.

If you have additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me privately.

I did it myself. It's very easy to program. You can buy the key fobs on eBay for dirt cheap.

Nope, 2011 + you need the dealer to do it, just had it done a couple days ago. they charge a 100$ too, i slipped the oil change guy at the dealership a 20$ spot and he did it on the fly.

What's the secret?

Anyone know what the dealer actually does to make the new keyfob work? Seems like a steep price for something that in previous models the owner used to be able to do.
