Wondering several things about my 4 dr. 2012 Tahoe with non-Bose system. Firstly, what side does the rear speaker harness run down (driver or passenger)?
Secondly, what size (6x9/ 4x10) are the rear speakers?
And lastly, how do i remove the passenger side cargo area trim panel so i can mount an amp in there?

Welcome on Steve.
First, the rear speaker harnesses run on both the drivers side and passenger side. They go trough he bottom of the b-pillars and the through the door grommet to get to the speakers.
Second, the door speakers in the car are neither of those sizes. They are 6.5" speakers, but both 6.5" and 6.75" speakers will work in them.
Third, you cannot mount your amp in the passenger side cargo area panel because there are A/C motors and other electronics back there. You could put it int he drivers side cargo area though. Doing that would mean that your jack materials installed in there at the factor would not fit in there any longer. You would also need a pretty small amp to fit there (the JL HD series amps, or the Alpine PDX amps would be a good fit there).
A good place to install your amplifier would be under you front center console since there is nothing under there in the non-Bose vehicles.

Welcome to TYF.

Modded pretty much got it covered, but what are your overall goals for the system. Just replacing mids and highs to your liking or are you doing substage also? I'm guessing your going for clarity over loudness?

OK...I found out quite a bit lately this weekend (on the "net" and on this forum as well).
My reason for modding the sound system is for both volume and clarity (not necessarily earth-shattering bass...just over-all volume...as I am an old-school rock-n-roller).
I found out that there is no place for 6x9 speakers in the cargo area (as was in my '99 Tahoe)...just some small tweeters...but there ARE hot leads back there!
What I'm going to do is buy some mating speaker clips with short lead wires...then tie those wires into an RCA jack...so I can attach/ remove...at-will... a pair of Kenwood 6994ps 6x9 speakers and enclosures or my old Stillwater "kickerbox".
Now...another question...
Since i have the non-Bose system (I have XM/ Bluetooth/ USB/ CD/ MP3) are there any leads open on the back of the head unit to add an amp?...or do i need to add a line-out converter?...and to which wires?...before adding an amp.
Eventually I am going to run Kenwood front door speakers on 2 of the amp channels...and 2 cargo-area aftermarket speakers on 2 of the the amp channls as well.
Oh!...and I'd like to thank you guys for your timely replies as well !

You will need a line out converter to get a low level signal to your amps. You can draw that signal off any of the speakers, but I recommend tapping into on of the leads for the door speakers for your signal. You can make that tap in a few different spots, but at the speakers harness behind the head unit is best. There are no open leads to get the signal from though.

Make sure you have enough impedance/wattage per channel so your speakers are getting adequate power. And RCA is an unbalanced line level so I could hardly imagine adding a 6x9 would sound remotely good and would clip @ higher volume.

OK...All that being said...I'm taking all this under advisement...as I'm still in the preliminary planning phase of this project.
The hot leads I found in the rear-most cargo area pillars...are those seperate channels off the head unit?...or are they piggy-backed off the rear door speakers?

I think those d-pillar speakers may have their own line, but I am not positive. Best way to check is too unplug on of the rear speakers and see if they turn off.

I also need to know if I can replace the 6.5" door speakers with Kenwood 6.5" 4 Ohm speakers...I heard mentioned something about 1.9 Ohms and 3.6 Ohms...
You see...my problem lies in the fact that I want to avoid cutting or splicing the factory wiring harness. In the past...it never really mattered much...(aftermarket stereos...passive eq's...multiple amps...aftermarket speakers and kickers etc.). But now I don't want to devalue my truck by over-customizing it. I want the next owner (or if I so choose) to be able to readily return the vehicle to stock condition.
