2012 Tahoe zw7 help

Hi! I'm in the process of researching different lifts and shock combinations for my Tahoe. In searching these amazing forums about the RPO code zw7 I have found some information that has confused me a bit.I have the RPO code ZW7 on a 2012 Tahoe LT 4WD. I believe that the springs and shocks in the rear are just normal. No nivomats or self leveling foo. the reason I think this is because the shock part number is: 22811847 which, judging by the price (between $50-$60) is just a normal shock. The spring part number is: 22811851 which on gmpartsdirect has a description of: "With off road chassis. Tahoe, Yukon. Code-aak6. 4wd, without magneride. Exc.Magnetic Ride Control. With 4wd, without auto lvlg cntrl."

So that sounds like a normal spring as well. My question/confusion is was the zw7 code just reduced to a normal suspension package in the GMT900 line? No expensive nivomats etc.

Thanks in advance and this forum has been a wealth of info since buying the Tahoe last year.
Also my current ride heights are basically around 36 front and almost 38 in the rear.

Unless you have RPO code G65 on your glovebox sticker they will be regular non-nivomat shocks. Is your truck a Z71? P.S. when you list your ride height include the size of your tires as it can affect it.

hi thanks for the reply, I do not have the G65 code. Truck is not Z71 as far as I can tell. The tires are cooper discoverers standard size, 265-70-17

sounds like regular old shocks - no hassles to replace - post up some pics when you get a chance.

Great! thanks. As much as I want a full suspension lift, I think the budget is more spacer than Fox.

Hey!! It looks like I’m in the same hunt as you I have a 13 with the ZW7 but no g65 I’m also confused and just want to lower my rear about 2” to make it level. I also don’t want to effect my towing abilities with lowering springs. Have you found any other info?

@brandon bunn I was just thinking about our conversation. I don't see how lowering the rear would inherently reduce your towing capacity, the only issue you'll have is you might have binding in the rear when you are towing because the rear will sag more. I'd say install some lowering springs (PPV or groundforce) and maybe air bags if you need them.

I’m thinking a shot the ppv spring I’m just trying to find out if the rates are similar to what I currently have just shorter and what shock to run with that spring

If you go with Ppv springs I believe you can install shock extender brackets upside down to allow you to use your stock ride shocks on a lowered ride.
