Need advice about replacing 2012 Denali Transmission. AAA towed me in to local repair shop last night. Engine runs but will not do anything in D or R. P does work and hold the vehicle. Wen unloading off the tow truck, the driver then said D and R did work.
Quoted last night about $4,500 for a rebuilt one and about $800 to install. They will actually look at it today and report back on what they think the problem really is, but a replacement would be the worst case. The rebuilt one I think is coming from a GM dealer, which they then buy and resell to me and install. I will have full details later today after they look at it. The rebuilt one also may be coming from another source.
Do these prices sound reasonable to you in today's market? Are there other rebuild choices? Bought the vehicle used 5 yeas ago with 98,000 miles and have had no issues, except for usual maintenance costs. Have a 2003 SLT 5.7 L in my drive way I bought new with 325,000 miles on it with original transmission. But it is rusted out and not running. Used now like a storage unit.
My Local repair shop guys all currently drive GM Yukons or Surburbans, so they have experience. But they won't be rebuilding anything. Also don't know if the old transmission then has any value, or if the price they pay for a rebuilt one includes turning in of the old one. Thanks for your comments.
