Just realized that we drove our 2012 Yukon about 40 miles on dry pavement with 4wd Hi engaged. I didn't realize it until it made a noise when turning in the driveway... Did we do damage? Should I be checking anything before driving it again? Seems to drive ok in 2wd... nothing dripping (yet)... Any advice (other than don't do it again)?

Thanks.

I really don't think you did any harm to it. In 4x4 on the dry pavement turning, they can make noise/bucking because there is no slipping between the front and rear diffs. So tires might chirp or scrub more. Going down the highway in a straight line or even slight corners isn't going to hurt it.

Might have burned up the clutches in the transfer case. Get the fluid checked for metal and burning and you might have lucked out. Even going in a straight line minor differences in tire circumference will cause a bind

Thanks for your replies. I will have the fluids checked and hope that I lucked out. Although a bone-head move on my part, a dummy light on the inst panel indicating the vehicle is in 4wd would be useful. The tiny light on the 4wd dial is not very obvious...

The auto 4wd t/case has clutches. They are not supposed to slip like the AWD case

i wouldn't see where you would have did much damage, being that you were in 4-hi. now it still would hurt to have the oil checked

Some of you guys are acting as though these trucks are made like tinkertoys. Unless you were doing nothing but hard turns at WOT the whole time, 40 miles on dry pavement is fine dude. I'd be a little more worried if it were an older truck with much higher mileage, but a 2012? The world isn't going to stop spinning, gravity isn't going to reverse, and no, your diffs and t-case aren't destroyed.
