HomeLink module, as removed from 2013 Buick Enclave Overhead Console.
Notice that on the Buick version, there are only 2 wires going to the 3 wire connector. My 2012 Yukon has 3 wires going to the Lear module. I am pretty sure that the middle (brown) wire is for the backlight. The Red and Black are power and ground, respectively.
The Homelink module is made by Johnson Controls. The Lear is made by... somebody else. Although the lear has backlight capability, I suspect that the Homelink module can be adapted as well. I forgot to take a pic, but there are 3 (way too small) LEDs that shine into the backlight framework, which then passes light through the 'white' dots that are backed by a green tint.
I also noticed, and forgot to take pics, that the housings of the two products are near identical, with the LEAR having additional openings for backlight. I have opened the Lear housing, and it is just a loose circuit board. Though I failed to check, I am pretty sure that the Homelink will be the same. If it is, it should just be a matter of adding LEDs to the Homelink, and associated components, to restore backlight. Otherwise, I will just epoxy a green LED to the backlight frame, swap PCBs, reuse GMC buttons, and restore backlight that way.
I will update when I finally get around to the backlight portion. Next planned project is getting power up to the console so I don't do something bad to the small wiring that is already present.
