The foot actuated parking brake on my 2013 Yukon will not release no matter how far down I push it. The problem started recently and is getting worse. The rear shoes are thick. The cables are free and not rusted. I adjusted the parking brake cable. Still a problem. I strongly suspect the parking brake assembly up under the dash. My preference would be to repair it followed by installing a new assembly. I would appreciate any help suspicion and with fixing the problem. Thanks!

Sounds like you might have a bad lever assembly. Can you get under the dash and see if you can get it to release with a screw driver or a pet bar while someone presses down on it?

How did you get the foot lever released? My 2014 PPV has this issue. I push down on the parking brake lever with my foot. Now, I can't get it released. When I push on it to release it, it just goes down further.

Replace it, they are not expensive at all. Use the shop manual for the proper methods for set up and adjustment (AllDataDIY subscription).

Wasn’t aware GM changed the p brake release method from early vehicle.

Early vs.

Until you’re ready to go in and rebuild the parking brake with new shoes and/or pads & discs, I’d avoid using the p brake entirely, if possible.

If you’ve got the time, pull the wheel / disc to inspect the entire assembly. The rears on our 08 were leaking at the backing plates. If I would of known that I could’ve simply dropped the truck off with new (self supplied) discs, pads and parking brake shoe kit and the labor for a rear parking brake and disc brake job would of been free when the rear axle backing plate seals were done.

Servicing rear axle seals requires pulling rear diff cover and the entire rear brake assembly so the measly $5 gaskets at the axle backing plates can be replaced. If there’s any evidence of those backing plates leaking, have the seals replaced to get the rear brake job (labor) for free as well as the rear axle 100k service for free.

BTW that trim that looks like a grill on the right side of the cargo area is a cover for the rear HVAC unit and it’s supply fan. The insulation is there to quiet down the noise when the rear a/c or heat is on.
