2015 Suburban..Water pump removal

Hi I have a 2015 Suburban and I'm trying to replace the water pump but no matter how I try I can't remove it. I tried prying it out but it wouldn't even budge. Any suggestions on how I can remove it? Thanks for your help.

If you are sure you have all bolts out and are prying on it, something is wrong. I would bet you have a bolt you have not removed. If you want to take a hammer, metal or rubber, and impact it. If you are replacing and have no core charge, no big deal.

There's six bolts on the water pump that attaches it to the manifold. I removed all 6 and it still isn't coming off. I don't want to use a hammer on it because I'm afraid I'll damage the manifold as well.

That thing is not bolted to a manifold. It is bolted to the front of the engine block and you are not going to break the engine block. There is a void on the passenger side of the engine block behind the water pump. Use a pry bar in there and pry the water pump off or use the hammer I suggested. Did you watch a you tube video?

It is not bolted on directly to the engine block. Look at the picture I inserted. What I circle in the picture is what I'm trying to remove

and if you read the description it says 7 attaching bolts and you said there are 6 bolts. You still have a bolt in there to remove.


We recommend that you put all your rig(s) info in your signature so we all don’t have to guess at year, make, model, engine size, trans, rear axle locker…….etc. While you may have posted pertinent info in your first post, you may forget to do it again and the info is needed by us anyway. Makes it way easier on all members that attempt to help, to have that info right up front. It is also recommended that you take a pic of your RPO codes, on the inside cover of the glove box, and post that image in your signature. All this info will greatly help those that will try to help with a problem.


If there is any other info, like upgrades, mods or recent mechanical/maintenance work done, that would be helpful in any post as well. Too many times a question is asked by the poster and after about 10 responses we find out that the poster has done recent work to attempt to fix the problem or work that was done that SEEMS not related to the problem.

The 7 bolts is for the assembly in the pic and not for what you may be doing. Plus, yes, that design is the complete assembly with the manifold. But when you look at this:

it still says 7 mounting holes.

There is a bolt hidden behind the pulley such that you have to rotate the pulley and line up a hole with the bolt. Did you get that bolt out.

There is also a bolt on the bottom that is hard to see—you have to feel it.

It's actually 6 holes my friend. I called a friend of mines who's a mechanic and he told I have to hit it with a hammer to knock it out. I guess it was seized up. I hit it three times and if came right off. Thank you for your help.
