2015 Yukon XL Denali- advice

First off, long time since I posted

I have a 2015 Denali- love it- only trouble I have had is the Magnetic Ride Struts- bought Monroe’s and bypassed the fronts- the backs are still good.

I also replaced front rotors and brakes while the struts were being replaced.

I’ll be at 80k next oil change, have always run full synthetic, cleaned AEM air filter every other oil change, never go over 5k between changes. This car is not a daily driver, I put half the miles on it the first year and now it only gets driven once a week or for long vacation trips. Basically all highway miles.


No problems with vehicle, but I’m wanting to keep it for atleast 10 more years.

Based on years (not miles) the book says to do the following-

Change transfer case fluid, drain and fill engine cooling system, replace brake fluid.

Should I do all that? Also, should I look at a transmission flush yet?

Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

I would change at the transmission fluid ASAP. I did mine at 60K miles. Shifts a lot smoother since the flush. Had the dealer do it. The best place to get that done is the GMC-Chevrolet Dealer IMHO.

As I recall the cooling system should be good till 100K miles.

The brake fluid flush is a wallet flush IMHO. When I get new brakes it will get flushed.

I change the oil every 5K miles [or less] with either 0w20 Mobil 1 or 0w20 AC Delco. I use AC Delco oil filters. Oil is just a slight amber [and still full] when I change it.

I do the cabin and air filter about every 35K miles. At that time they still look in overall good shape but change it anyway.

I have not done any induction service that the Stealership constantly pushes on you every time you go there.

I do not have a catch can and AFM is still enabled.

I am at 79K miles right now and that is all I have done. So far just plain old regular maintenance.

I would do everything that you mentioned and add the rear differential and power steering fluid to the list. Especially if you plan to keep it long time like some of us
Personally I do all of the fluids annually but I also drive the vehicle pretty hard so my maintenance routine is "severe duty"

best advice I can give is to keep an eye on your vehicle, pop the hood every month and look for leaks, worn or rubbing parts or wires, get a flashlight and look under the vehicle and do the same look for leaks or worn parts. most people don't ever bother to do this, it's a machine you have to maintain it if you want it to keep working properly.

I too love my 2015 Yukon XL Denali. I currently have 206,000 miles on it. Mostly highway of course. I also plan to own it for a long time. The true fact is that every problem or fault that I have ever read or heard about with this vehicle, I have experienced.
Right now I have the engine torn apart to replace the cam and lifters due to a failed lifter i suspect. But I am installing new AFM parts because I think I'm among the few folks that actually like the DOD concept. Honestly, the engine has basically been trouble free up until now. My suggestion is to faithfully keep the oil changes from going longer than 5k miles according to everything I've heard. Ill post again once I have it back together and hopefully running properly again. When everything works, this is a great vehicle!

just checking, besides oil changes. Did you do the services above and if so, at what time?
