In the last year, the paint on my hood and top has started to fade, fine scratches and a rough feel. I maintain my vehicles and have waxed my Tahoe at least once a year. Took it by a few body shops and one guy said there was a known issue with the paint on Tahoe. To fix, they will have to strip the entire hood and repaint and blend the fenders, at $2000. Another $2500 to do the top.

Anyone else experience this? I assume Chevy does not acknowledge an issue or motor company repair?

TIA

Someone was trying to put together a class action lawsuit, Google search should bring something up.

I had my hood repainted about 6 months ago for similar issue. Sucks.

It’s a 2016 Chevy won’t do anything for you unfortunately.

My roof is also faded and pretty weathered. I skipped that because it’s not as noticeable.

I got estimates to repaint the hood and top. I searched for any class action lawsuits. I may call Chevy to see what they say. Sounds like a very big problem, hence Chevy does not want to admit guilt.

pretty common for these, had the wifes done + the front part of the roof for $1200-1300 I think, was $1000 for the hood but then I asked how much more to blend the forward part of the roof in as well. cash talks......

Both the hood and roof on mine had the rash. I said fuggit.

The roof rack is way useful and hides that. The hood has a new persona.

Ask around as @Doubeleive said. Ask if you could do the sanding if that would save any money (if you are willing to get your hands dirty of course).

There's even guys that do small repaint jobs on your driveway, at least around here. Mobile painters I guess they call them. They are cheaper because they don't have huge overhead shop costs.

I'm learning how to do auto paint myself. I'm working on re-painting a hood and the roof of my 04 as a matter of fact right now. Painting in my driveway/garage. Very time consuming to do the prep and to do it correctly. That's why they charge a lot.

I had the hood and roof redone for $1500 in 2023. Now I need to get estimates for the sides of the truck as the cracking is starting on the upper doors and fenders. I bought a little time by wet sanding with 2000 grit and compounding some of the areas.

Man, I hope my fenders and upper doors don't start this cracking but I guess it's good to know. I am getting my roof/hood repainted starting Monday Dec 2 and the cheapest estimate I got was $4100 with windshield replacement (around $650) since they take it out anyway and I have had a chip for years.

I opened a case with GM for this issue and they are kicking in $200 toward the repair. That's laughable. But what I understand once I get the work done, they will re-reviewing my case and they may provide more compensation.

And if you don't know, there's currently a Class Action lawsuit working it's way through the courts as we speak. So I'm hoping either GM steps up now, or covers the repair through the class action lawsuit. I have included some links I found in my research.

Hope this is helpful. I will provide updates along the way.
