In process of fluid exchange and filter change on my 2017 Tahoe. The filter seal is a real pisser to get out.

I tried treading a 3/4 in pipe into it and tapping with small hammer - couldn't get it to budge.

Anyone have experience with another option?

Hindsight being 20-20 I would have left it alone!

Thanks for any feedback.

Yeah, seeing the trouble folks were having with them was a great motivator to leave it alone. GM's special tool is screwdriver or a pick too! Let us know how it goes? Most guys get a flat blade between the pump and seal and twist, folding the seal in some which allows a pick to pull it out.

Yup, a real PIB! I made the exact tool in the thread Jay referenced. Not sure why it wouldn't work? I decided to leave it till morning and try the pipe tool again when my patience level will be better.

If that doesn't work, I'll try a sharpen flat screwdriver and try to tap it and bend inward then try to pull it out.

I actually got the pan out fairly easily and thought I was ahead of the game...not so much!

I just purchased the rebuild manual for the 6L80 and they put the seal in there during rebuilds! I bought an installation tool cheap off ebay a few weeks ago too for when I finally go inside the transmission at the next 36K interval.

No fun indeed, I don't envy ya!

James,

Update - I ended up taking it to the trans shop yesterday I have done business with and had them drop the pan and replace it. I tried several methods, the 3/4 pipe and the sharpened screwdriver and it wasn't playing nice. I got to a spot where I thought I was better off having them do it vs me scoring the surface or something worse.

The folks at the shop told me that if the seal doesn't pull out with reasonable pressure using the pipe routine then it is probably somewhat fused.
They said mine was a difficult to get out for them and they do it all the time. Maybe they were telling me that to make me feel better about paying them - it worked!

On to the next fluid change differentials and transfer - much easier task!
