I was looking at TSB 08-07-30-035C about the coolant getting in to the transmission fluid. How common does this happen? Does it start out turning the fluid pink and before you know it you have shifting problems. And then codes show up.. and do all GM service centers check for coolant in transmission fluid contamination when they do a rebuild.. because let's say only leeches in the cooler slowly or at high pressures when towing etc.. It's a pretty elusive TSB . Do they have test strips to tell if there's moisture in the transmission fluid you know from the coolant ? Thanks for any info.

if you suspect it is happening, but not sure
use the “Gly-Tek” test kit, otherwise I wouldn't worry about it, the chances of it happening are very rare.

Interesting, but it does start with making fluid pink ? You know instead of red it should be. I will look in to that test thanks. I sure guys at GM service centers at dealers would spot it right away .

Well apparently, but the problem is dexcool and transmission fluid are very similar colors so that's when the test kit makes the final determination

Well for sure have pink fluid and level went up only 1/8 inch on the dipstick. So it's worth a test strip testing. Because seems strange. To give you Idea you know when you pull dipstick on tranny at temp and has a red but thin coat look. This one you need to move dipstick back and forth just to see light pink.
And cold it still looks light pink not red. So it's very suspect of that TSB problem. I get test strips and I let you know my findings . Is there like any other contaminants that can get in the transmission fluid from like if they change the transmission fluid or if they flushed it you know way before hand? I got it used while back.. I compared colors atf from my old 2006 Yukon XL and I bought fresh quart of ATF..
Thanks for the info...

Transmission fluid is oil based, and coolant is water-based. When they mix in sufficient quantities, as they would in the transmission if you had a leak in your oil to water transmission cooler, then you would get an emulsion. An emulsion is milky.

Today’s transmission fluid is very thin. But you can always use the test strips for peace of mind.
