This thread is still going so I thought I'd put in my 5c (my cents have been adjusted for inflation) I've been through the entire gambit. My Denali transmission and engine failed immediately after the warranty expired. A new turnkey long block 6.2 runs about 14 K.. A used turnkey long block runs about 6k now.. I got an entire used powerplant; ecu's + harness connected to an engine and trans for 6K. I forget the mileage, it was low.

Thats still cheaper than a new vehicle.. Or a used running one. I should have saved a ton of $ and used a 5.3... But I digress..

I rebuilt the ebay engine and stock trans and then reprogrammed the trans with bluecat to not lock the converter up until 50mph and zero'd out the slip. It's been about 15K now no issues. I still have an 8L90 left over from that job. Maybe I'll put it in my F350 when that engine dies..

My point is, reprogram the trans so it's not always slipping the converter. I know you have a warranty but I think it's stock programming that's the problem, not the hard parts themselves.
Thanks. I'll look into that!

Make sure you back up the stock tune so you can restore it if the truck has to back for trans or engine warranty work, unless you can confirm a non-stock tune wont void your warranty.
There is a change log history in the ECU and this can be found using the GDS software and a J2534 pass through device.. Yes it will void the warranty the change in code will show up. Also, there is a bulletin that shows you how to check for this change log. Will they check? Probably... It's their duty to.

I wanted to break the cycle. **** a warranty if they're not going to address the root cause. That doesn't make a damned bit of sense.

My dealer offers a lifetime powertrain warranty which covers trans. The service mgr is a friend and since this is not a GM warranty, I never worry about it. Once I traded back a 16 that had a Blackbear tune installed and the next owner got it included!

Yea, you have a sweet deal. My expectations weren't met. The truck had issues right out of the gate and I feel the dealership took advantage of my lack of knowledge on the problems these vehicles have. it cost me a lot of $ and heartache. They jerked me around on the warranty initially with the air cond, it's worth mentioning that has gone out twice. Both times it wasn't covered under this expensive warranty I purchased. Then the engine blew up and the trans needed to be rebuilt immediately after.

After the initial anguish passed, I bought the tools and did it myself. The best revenge is success, right? I'm considering specializing in just GM.. I enjoy working on them.
