I have a 2018 Tahoe premium and it has adaptive cruise control. I cannot stand how it slams on the brakes way too early and kills my passing momentum. I have tried every trick the Internet says to disable adaptive cruise control and only use standard cruise control, but it seems my year doesn’t have that ability.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to remove adaptive cruise control permanently and install standard cruise control?

The adaptive cruise control on my truck is buggy at times. Typically on road trips it will shut off after two hours and say it needs service. But if I run up close to someone, the radar usually reactivates and I can start using cruise control again.

I'm not sure on this, my guess is you would need access to the BCM to toggle off certain options. We have it on our 2017 Denali and I absolutely hate adaptive cruise, so I rarely use it. If you keep your radar distance short and then drive like a semi driver and change lanes well before you are in their back seat, it works like normal. I hate the emergency braking function too - it almost caused me an accident instead of avoiding one.

I do remember that when the front radar gets blocked (usually snow/slush) it will say some message on the dash, but I think the cruise still works. Maybe try blocking that somehow and see what happens?

I think based on comments on this forum and my own CT6, that the Cadillac models allow the adaptive cruise to be turned off. Maybe 2019 & 2020 GMCs had that option to turn ACC off?
The real question is which software is needed to access which BCMs in order to turn that function on to allow the driver to turn ACC off yet keep normal cruise control.
Or upload a later version GMC version of software, or Caddilac version of software that does allow ACC to be turned off.
Does HP Tuners have that ability or is it only GDS2?

you could try reaching out to wams
otherwise good luck, if wams cannot do it then sell it and buy the one you want with both standard and adaptive or just standard.
these are things that should be researched before buying, just saying..... some of the options on these vehicles are not easily worked around and have redundancy built in to prevent circumvention. In the future it's going to just get worse and worse, the gman is already setting it up as "required" in all future new vehicles, camera's, radar, automatic speed limiters, vehicle to vehicle communication, you name it.

From what people here have said in the past there's no way to disable it.
Some of those features I like but they should still make ways to disable them especially when there are situations that they can be buggy or cause more issues then good.

I have HP tuners so I’ll take a look around and see if I can play with the adaptive cruise control. But I doubt it. Blocking the radar prevents the cruise control from being used at all. That’s my biggest reason for wanting to get rid of it. I’ll be driving along on a perfectly clear day and suddenly the radar stops working for a while and says that it’s blocked. But there’s nothing blocking it.

All of the videos I saw were for 2019 and up. Some of them said it might work on the 2018 but it does not on my truck. There is only adaptive cruise control or nothing at all unfortunately.

Who is WAMS? I absolutely love every single thing else about this truck. I didn’t particularly want the newer 2019 where they went to electric shift buttons. I got a great deal on this one so I don’t plan on getting rid of it anytime soon.

that is the redundancy that is built in, if any part of the system fails to report in or does not pass self checking, then it shuts it all down, same with the shutters and object detection, etc...... it either shuts down and throws a code, or a "service" message in the dic or all of the above
that's gm covering there ass
the only thing that will still work when all else fails is the brakes and some steering ability.

google is your friend, you'll have to send them a email and inquire if they can do it, it won't be a stand alone service allready offered.
