Im getting ready to get rid of my 2016 Yukon XL Denali and order a 2019. What do you guys think of the $2800 brake upgrade? I have never been happy with the brakes on the Yukon or Subruban. Maybe because I drive it full of people and drive it hard. Any thoughts good or bad? I’m thinking about adding it on. I would love some opinions and experiences. Are they that much better?

GMC-Branded Performance Front Brake Upgrade System
$2,795
  • Red Brembo® 6-piston, fixed aluminum calipers
  • Larger-than-stock 410 x 32mm (16.1-inch x 1.3-inch) Duralife™ rotors
  • 84% increase in brake pad area and a 42% increase in rotor area to increase system thermal capacity
  • Duralife™ rotors feature a hardened surface to reduce corrosion and provide quieter braking with less vibration

I have no personal experience with the GM Brembo Brake upgrade. I think there are just as good and/or better brake upgrade options out there for the money.

For an additional $1K you can get some very nice Wilwoods at all 4 corners, not just the front.

Wilwood TX6R 16” 6 piston up front and Wilwood AERO4 14” 4 piston in the rear.

2-piece rotor design reduces weight
Forged Calipers (I think the GM Brembo calipers may be cast)
Package below comes with stainless steel braided brake lines (not included in the GM Brembo upgrade).

Not to mention going this route you’ll still have the stock brakes to keep. When you go to trade-in or turn in your 2019 lease you can have the stock brakes put back on and sell the Wilwoods for an easy $2250-ish on this site depending on how many miles are on the rotors and pads.

This exact kit is sitting in my garage and hope to have installed here this weekend on my ‘15 Yukon XL Denali.

If I where you I wouldn’t buy the 2019 and pick up the 2020 that’s going to drop sometime next year.

Thank you for the response. That looks like a nice set. I would have no problem installing that in my current Denali that I have had for two years. But something in my head makes it hard to tear apart my brand new Denali and put those on. I’m sure it’s all mental. Just hard. It seems better in my head to order with the factory new even though I would get more bang for my buck with the aftermarket. Weird huh?

The brembo package will be installed at the dealer at least that was the case for all 2018s.

Please be weary, the spare tire Will Not fit over the Brembo! It will require a 2 tire change. 1st the back must be taken off and spare installed and the rear to replace the front tire. Found this out personally. So factor that into your decision.

I wonder if the brake upgrade would increase towing capacity? Seems like the 6.2 has plenty of HP, it must be the ability to stop the load that keep our towing limit so low??
