Hello,

I have a 2021 Tahoe Premier with 30,500 miles on it.
Yesterday, all of a sudden I received the error, "service transmission now, unable to shift soon"

I called my dealer, and of course they are swamped, but agreed to take it in as an emergency.

Any idea what this is about?

I googled it, and its everything from a programming issue, to full tans replacement?

Thank you.

I know it sounds crazy. But check your battery. If it's the original, and is going bad it will throw all sorts of warnings, because the computers do not like low voltage.

Had a similar issue in my 2021, just recently. It had the original battery from 4/8/2020.

Here's a how to:

That could very well be it!
Mine was delivered to me 11/15/20, built in 8/2020 and it is the original battery in the car, so it is 5 years old as well.

I will call the delaler in the AM, and ask him to check that. They have not looked at it as yet, so don't know what codes it is giving.

would removing the battery reset the codes?

Just my 2 cents. Don't waste your time at the dealer for a battery change. Even if you are in warranty, batteries are maintenance items. They will likely charge you just to diagnose, and then an exorbitant amount to change it.

Just get yourself a new battery, and watch my video a few times, knock out the replacement in about 30 mins. Crack a few beers afterwards and you'll be on your way.

Hello All,

Turns out it was the transmission.

The dealer determined it pretty quickly.
They did not charge for the diags,
There were several error codes, all pointing to low voltage.

I purchased the battery from them, yes I know expensive, but it was $250.00 plus tax.

so, not to bad,

I changed out my own battery about two months ago, one thing that was a surprise to me was that many batteries were compatible with my car, but I purchased one with slightly larger CCA than what was in the vehicle (I didn't know to check what I had in the vehicle, I assumed the CCA were all the same for batteries that were compatible with 2020 Tahoe). The OEM battery came out fairly easy, but the new battery was slightly longer because of the higher CCA and it didn't fit until I removed one of the bolts holding down the coolant overflow reservoir and even then it barely fit. Taking it out is not going to be fun.

Thanks for the heads up. It was replaced with the same CCA rating. I had the dealer do it, the cost was about $325.00 with labor. They diagnosed the issue as a bad battery. Along with he message I saw, their diags showed numerous low voltage issue. They have seen that before and its the battery. The original was 5 years old as I got the car November 2020

I don't think I needed to purchase the battery with higher CCA, but I did (my research led me to 'buy the battery with the highest CCA for your vehicle' so I did). Had I bought a battery with the same CCA as what was OEM, I would not have needed to take out that bolt to allow for some additional space.

I’m assuming you meant to say that it *wasN’T* the transmission …
