2024 Z71 mpg .. can it be this bad?

Our 6.2L Z71 averages 17-18 mpg city/back road driving. 21-22 on the freeway.

My wife can get better MPG then me!! I like using the skinny pedal to much!!

Back roads 45-60 mph. Freeway 70-75 mph.

We just bought a new 2024 Z71 last weekend, and boy does the mpg really suck compared to the 2022 RST we traded in.

Anybody else experiencing similar results? I’m barely getting 12-13 in the city, and I can watch the average drop while sitting in the car with it running for just 10-15 minutes.

Both old and new have the 5.3L

I have a 22 Z71 and yes with my lead foot. It sucks. I’m fairly certain Gm turned it the eco 4 cylinder shift on the Z71s. I put a Thornton performance chip in mine and after a couple tries tuning. It’s 16-18. Not great but better

I did notice that while sitting still in park, I could see the average dropping … I’ll chalk it up to break-in period for another few hundred miles … I’ll reset it after we hit 500 and see what it looks like after that

Would a new air filter help, K&N? Would a performance chip/plug in help much? I have looked at the Evolv, just not sure about pulling the trigger yet, or giving it a little longer to even itself out

You don't even have 500 miles on it? Don't do anything until you've run at least 1000 miles and check it then. Wouldn't be surprised if the tires/rims on the AT4 decrease your mpg's a bit.

3.0L Diesel is the way to go! when fuel economy is important!

Wife drives and the mpg drops? WOW! Opposite for me and my wife.

So you have a 5.3L 10 speed with 3.23 gears and semi aggressive tires with low miles. Do you race to the next stop light or drive at 80 mph, live in a cold climate, tire pressures low or high? Doesn't matter how I dive my 2011 Tahoe it always does 15 mpg all day unless on a long highway trip. Driving habits and above suggestions can make a big difference. Always use 87 octane and not premium fuel with a 5.3L. Let it break in but it won't help much ( it is what it is )
