... anything is possible if you write enough 0s on the check.
Some things don't take as many zeros, like an L8T or an L5P - although adding the DEF stuff shouldn't be too hard, the upshot is that there's likely several reasons why GM did not bother making the L5P available to the genpop in a Suburban.

My opinion is that GM is wrong about that ...

I think most of the reason (this is not substantiated by anything other than OPINION) why all Big 3 do not put their big diesels into their 1/2 ton SUVs is because ppl will do stupid things with them.

It takes 1 idiot saying “this is the same engine in a 3500 and I put a bigger turbo and injectors on this thing so I can tow 20,000,000,000,000 lbs”…….. and lawsuit.

That’s why we get the smaller diesels in 1/2 models.

I believe it comes down to GVWR, the 2025 Suburban GVWR is 7,700lbs whereas the 2025 Silverado 2500 is 10,850lbs (High Country 4wd).

The EPA and emission regulations change at 8,500lbs which just under the 2013 Suburban 2500 GWVR of 8,600lbs.

If anyone has further details or a correction please by all means school me.

Correct. GVWR impacts a lot of different items so if a company can get the GVWR to a specific number it make regulation for towing/emissions/etc much easier to achieve. The key is getting to that magic number.

Edit: corrected typo
