24x14 Offroad Wheels On An AT4

First off... My truck, my rules. That's all that matters.

I've been eying these 4Play 4PF5's for years but didn't want to commit to them for ridiculous reasons (didn't offer them in 26x14). I eventually circled back to them over several months, because I didn't want to commit to a 35 tire and have to lift the vehicle above a 2 inch leveling kit. So 33's it was... I also wanted an aggressive M/T because I liked the look, so these Atturo Trail Blades were as aggressive as they came.

I ordered everything online, so the wheels and tires arrived today. I'll be doing a test fitting to see "if" and how much modification I may need to do to the fender liner. The tire size is a 13.50 wide going on a 14 wide, so I may or may not get a little bit of the stretched look - which I'm fine with. It might even help with not having to do much NorCal modifications to the fender liner. Either way, I'm committed. I chose these wheels because they're a two-piece forged wheel, and the style is like no other wheels out there. And I hate those highly advertised and popular cheap wheels that everyone gets... because everyone has them. Mostly my reasons for choosing this 4Play wheel is because the blades of the spokes slightly resemble the C-pillar when you see them at an angle, so they complement each other almost as if they were made for this vehicle.

The hub of the wheels come machined with a tinted clear, while the barrel is tinted on the inside barrel and polished on the outer barrel. My plan is to powder coat the barrels gloss black, the spokes mat black, and leave the "ladders" that tinted clear. That should work well with the factory mat chrome surrounding the grill and tailgate trim... I'm not planning to do any serious offroading, or trail blazing with these wheels. I like the look, I want something different that stands out, and it's my truck, with my rules...

I'll post more pictures as I progress along... Depending on the powder coater's schedule, I'm estimating this to be a 3 to 4 week-long project until they're on the truck.

Damn those wheels are sick. Kudos to you for having the patience to send them to the powder coater after all that has arrived and sitting in your garage.

I don't think there is a better look than gloss black barrels with matte or satin spokes. Looking forward to the final results! what's the offset on those? -20ish?

The offset is -76 to be specific. These wheels are crazy deep. Very surreal to look at in person when you see the concavity. I spent the greater part of an hour unboxing them and loading them up in the Yukon. I bought a total of 5 rims & tires, just in case something happens to one of the rims.

I'm test fitting one of them today and sending the other 4 to the powder coater down the street. If I can get the modifications done today while the wheel is on, I'll be set when the powder coasting is done, and I can just put the wheel on without delay. If not, I'll have to wait until I find someone that'll do the mods... If push comes to shove, I'll do the mods myself.

I don’t think you’re going to clear that with a 2” level but you’re probably the 1st to try so you’ll have to be the Guinea pig

Got some answers today... I took the wheels to both the powder coater and the tire shop. I didn't get the answers I was hoping for, but it's knowledge in the bank.

The tire shop was able to mount the tire, but wasn't able to inflate it because the rubber was too stiff and wouldn't stretch out to the rim lip. SoCal weather is a little gloomy today, but he said he's leaving it outside to allow the tire to soften in the heat, so it'll inflate. The tire will definitely be stretched by an inch and a half, which means I may not have to do any mods... but it's too soon to say.

As for the powder coating, I went to a local shop where I was told - by the owner - "I really don't like to do two-tone powder coating because it's too much work"... Really? His idea of powder coating my rims is to shoot the entire rim black, and one color, not two-tone (mat & gloss black). I just collected my rims and walked out. So now I have to wait until Monday to go to another local shop. They're expensive, but they'll get the job done right. Even the shop I visited today said the other shop was really good and had state-of-art machines and techniques. So, that's where I'm heading next week.. otherwise, things are shaping up.

If the tire shop is successful today, they'll put it on the Yukon for a test fitment.

Okay so bad news... It rubs... but that was to be expected. Now I have to go to the next step and research the trimming techniques of a Utah based offroad company that I've been following on YouTube for a while now. They've successfully put 35's on an AT4 by removing the fender liner and some other modifications. It looks very clean and tasteful.

As for today's fitment test, I didn't set my expectations too high on them clearing the fenders, so I took a lot of pictures for reference on where I need to trim and modify.
