265 too 285

just in case anyone wants to know 285 is the width in MM the 70 is 70% of the width for the wall height and of course the last is rim size so.

.70 * 285 = 199.5 (there is 25.4 mm in an inch so 199.5/25.4=7.85)

Okay this 7.85 is just one half of the tire, from the rim out, so you will need to times this number by 2.

7.85 X 2 = 15.7 inches

Now the final step add the rim size to the sidewall and you are done

15.7 + 16 = 31.7 this is overall diameter of a 285 70 16

I am hoping to get 295 75 16s next tire purchase

Thats true, but be sure to bear in mind that every manufacturer varies their sizes, even if it still is a 285/75 r16 or whatever. For instance:

I am shopping for tires and want to run a 295/75 r 16. Looking at 2 different brands of tires. One is 33.6 x 11.6 the other is 33.2 x 11.5

Might be minor to some, but makes a difference to me.

Best bet is to check out the tire manufacturers website. They usually post the tire specs there. If they don't, I won't purchase them.

You will be fine. Your MPG shouldn't decrease unless you don't tune for the new tire size. 265's are 1" Smaller. Should tell no difference.

Check my yukon album...The stock pics are with 265's and the pics with the black rims are the 285's.

I can definitely tell I have a lot more unsprung weight with the steel wheels and big tires and have noticed a slight decrease in my gas mileage...no figures to post yet though. I'm kind of longing for 4.10 gears instead of the 3.73's that I have.

AND

On your stock rim which is a 16x7 w/ 5.5" of back spacing i would only go up to a 305, even w/ that you will probably have some rub on the frame. If your keeping with stock i would just go 285 and you will minimize rubbing and cupping on the tire. If you go aftermarket i would look into something around 8" inches wide and 5-4.5" of backspacing, then you could get away w/ a wider tire.

This was my 285 tire on stock rims, had no rubbing and good even wear on the tread.

Hey crmzendrgone,

Do you have any pictures of the two tire sizes at about the same distance in the photo? Its kind of hard to determine the change when the photos are taken from different angles and distances.
