I just paid 50k for my denali. I have used the supreme fuel since 07 with a different car. Drivng the same route under the same conditions. I got about a mpg more. U say its not worth it , i call it cheap insurance.
Google E85. Theres no way i ever use that unless in an emergency. Exactly... Its less power

(make loud buzzing sound)Wrong answer.....E85 gives you quite a bit MORE POWER and while there are a few different schools on the octane I think we an all agree that is is 95+. The thing of it is....E85 is about 25% less efficient than regular unleaded, that is it is more powerful but uses more fuel in the process.......you go run a tank of E85 through your rig and tell me it has less power.......E85 is a great fuel and at the very least cost the same to run as unleaded(you just fill up more) and reduces our dependence on foreign oil.....hmm....american corn gas or arab oil.....you tell me. Brazil produces 100% of their fuel and every gas station is mandated to provide 100% ethanol made from Brazilian sugar cane........

ya know GG... I gave the corn a try once, because you had me sold... It ran good, felt peppy... but it did not idle well, so I scrapped it.

I would like to see what these things do if you tune specifically for the stuff.

good read and proves my point-- the lesser the octane, the lesser the performance, the lesser the efficiency-- but hey if people think they are daving the environment by burning it - great- persoanlly--- i think all the resources to grow E85 would be better served in another way

Well, I think E85 is like 105 octane so if you have a heavily boosted application it can make great power but for a stock engine it has less energy than gasoline so you've got to burn more of it to make the same power.
My cousin has a drag race quad that runs on methanol and it goes through about twice as much fuel as a similar one on race gas. Another downside is he's got to purge the system with gas after running it because methanol attracts water/condensation (ie. rusty cylinders) like crazy but I don't know if ethanol has that problem. Maybe E100 but probably not E85.

nope...we have E85 in the car, been sitting all winter. we replaced tranny last weekend, and after 2-3 weeks of sitting, fired right up.

Unfortunately I have witnessed E85 causing some of the same problems as "Agro" diesel mixtures.....jelling and high moisture attraction leading to rust. Don't take me wrong, I'm not telling anyone not to use it or do whatever they choose. I just had the exposure to it in a 1500+ "Motorpool" as the QA manager. It is verytrue that it is somewhat cheaper but the performance is also degraded. A simple test is to look for signs of rusting using a strong flashlight in the filler neck paying attention to the trap door spring. Also removing the gas cap and checking for moisture under the cap immediately and if you have it available using litmus paper for a positive moisture test. If you do find moisture I would suggest adding at least 3 pints of medical grade alcohol. Don't add more gas to the tank, just run out as much as possible and then refuel with "the real stuff".

I consistantly get over 500 miles per tank of gas on the highway cruising at 75 mph. But I have an XL and it has a 31 gallon tank.

Someone could probably lean the crap out of the mixture by a tune and get better gas mileage but fuel also lubes the engine. High altitudes would probably screw it up more since you have less oxygen to begin with.

E85 is a waste. Sorry but it is stupid to use a food source as a fuel. The government subsidizes corn production, it is less efficient and more expensive in most places. It also causes the price of anything that depends on corn as feed to go up.

My nephew put E85 in his Tahoe and it was constantly broke for fuel related problems.

An engine must be designed to run on premium for it to be effective otherwise it is a waste of money. Higher octane becomes less important the higher you go. You won't even find 91 in some locations, definitely not 93. My gas mileage drops 10% every time I go to CA because of their formulated gasoline there.
