I think I am going to pull the trigger on some Nitto 420s's. I am torn between the 275/55/20 size that comes on all the NNBS trucks (and is the size i currently have on it), or the slightly wider yet lower overall diameter 285/50/20 (which I am leaning towards).

The reason for the debate is that the original size 16" wheels and tires that came on my truck are almost an 1 1/2" smaller in diameter than the 275/55/20's that I am replacing. The 285's are much closer to the diameter of my factory tires, in turn keeping my gearing much closer to stock and keeping my speedo and miles more accurate.
One more thing, I am not planning on lowering or lifting the truck, so this is the height it will remain at.

Any thoughts or personal experience with the 285's? Thanks!

I went with the 285/50's to keep close to the original factory 16" wheel/tire diameter and have no regrets. Speedomter now reads only about 1-2 MPH slower than actual speed.

Edit: meant to say close to factory 17" wheel / tire diam...

I have always run the 285/50/20 on both my old 2001 tahoe and now my yukon. In the case with my tahoe, i bought the wheels and tires a few months before i dropped it 2/3. I did not like the way they looked at stock height, they just looked too short to me.

Edit: Jim's tahoe looks better than mine did from what i remember. Seems like i had much more fender gap.

Great! Thanks guys. I looked at Jim's album and I can't see a difference in height between mine and his. If I do pull the trigger, I will go with the 285's!

And Serge, they didn't have a 395/05R20 in my price range unfortunately! :laughing1:
