3rd Brake Light opinion

As my current 3rd brake is out and not matching of anything else (its stock), I am seeking a 3rd brake light. However, I am trying to keep it $50 or under. Here's what I have found.

Looking for "smoked", they were all black when not lit, which I am worried may not fit my look (my tails are smoked, but no where near black). Here is the black one I'm looking at

Worried that black housings wouldn't work well, I found Option 1 and Option 2. I prefer 1 because it seems to be darker. I am thinking of getting one of these because if it isn't dark enough to match my tails, I can always smoke it gradually myself until it matches.

Opinions? I am open to suggestions.

I would go with the black light. IMO it doesn't have to match the tails. A lot of newer vehicles have black 3rd brake lights that are only noticeable when lit up if you pay attention to them on the road. I think it makes for a cleaner look. With that said, I smoked my tails and 3rd brake light with the same shade of vinyl tint.....

Assuming you're asking me, none. I didn't mess with the tail housings, bought them as they were. If a vinyl tint was used it is a big shock to me

I used lamin-x gunsmoke. If I ever redo it, I'd get it a shade darker.

Not the easiest to work with but not bad on our tails since the shape isn't anything crazy. A heat gun helped, but a hair dryer will work well too. I took my tails off to do this.

I have the same style taillights as you do, just all smoke (the smoke color is the same tho) i had your first option for about a year and half the led's went out out of the blue. I changed it to the link below and it fits better is brighter and smoke color matches very well.

Thanks for the input! Mostly due to price, and a gut feeling, I went with Option 1. Just put it on today, very pleased!

I was under the assumption that installation was unscrew unscrew, screw in screw in, done, just by reading the product info. Having not touched it before, I was surprised to find I had to dig it out of the rubber shield first. That was a little tricky, as I had no clue what was where, but putting it back in was easy after figuring it out. Very simply install. Did have some trouble lining up the pins for the plug, but after a few trial and errors it clicked.
