DE1967E1-8C37-404E-98CF-9265C175D297.jpeg After picking up our new camper with the factory 3.42 gear set I swapped in some 4.11 gears. With the 33’s and towing 65mph it hangs right around 2500rpm and holds speed pretty good on hills. Currently in Georgia but headed up to Tennessee Saturday so we’ll see how it does on some steeper inclines. It’ll pickup speed in 4th. easy and my trans temps have been running 160-175 degrees in 75 degree ambient.

Do you have a external transmission cooler ?

Taken that trip a few times myself , on that route 24 I think it is there will be a few hills that will surprise.

It has the factory cooler but I’d never dream of towing the max rating(8k) it has unless it was just a few miles. We’re gonna take I75 the majority of the way up to Pigeon Forge. We usually take the mountain pass but not gonna do it towing unless I had too.

it’s the 6 speed trans. and some 5 star tunes.

Yes that’s in 5th. If I run about 2700 it’ll hold speed a lot better but I don’t like the idea of pulling our camper in the 70’s even if it is under 5k. Besides I ain’t in a hurry on vacation.

Nice rig! You staying at Cloudland Canyon or Fort Mountain? That site could be at either park and both are very nice. I added the 40k Truecool and it made a world of difference but haven't towed yet this year. The factory transmission cooler looked to be useless on my Suburban it was so small. Headed to Gulf Shores for the wife's Medicare birthday celebration in a few days so I'll report back after that trip but I wish there were a few more hills to test it out before we head up to the UP and Wisconsin later this summer. Enjoy the hills - the dogwoods are starting to pop.

Bob

Also - any issue with the 33s and the fenders? I'm running 32s and a slight lift thanks to Bilstein 5100s and getting just a hint of scrape at full lock.

That was in John Tanner state park near Carrollton while visiting the in-laws. We’re currently up in Virginia after a few days at Pigeon Forge. I agree the factory cooler is rather small but so far it stays plenty cool while towing. It actually got hotter easing through Cades Cove without the camper so I will probably add a bigger cooler for the Texas heat this summer and maybe an electric fan as well. We have a 3.5” lift with some trimming (just plastics) and don’t get any rub. They’re 33x12.5/R18 with -12 offset.
