I am new to the forum and a new tahoe owner, 06 4.8L. I have done a little reading on the forum trying to answer any questions I have been having about performance upgrades but I haven't seen a lot of stuff about the 4.8L on the forum. I am wanting to do an intake, exhaust and headers to begin with just to get a little more power and gas mileage out of her. I really just need some suggestions on all the upgrades, seeing as how everything on here is for 5.3-5.7, to get the best bang for my buck. If anybody has dealt with this engine before please let me know anything I need to know about it.

The 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 are basically identical other then the displacement. Basically any mods you see done to one engine, you can do to the others. That being said, intake, exhaust, and headers are definitely a good start. I would wrap them up with a black bear tune as well to get the most out of those mods.

I know that I am going to go with the Airaid Jr. kit with a drop in filter but the other 2 things are what I am not sure what to go with. I'm kinda sure I wanna go with long tube headers and I like the way the stock exhaust sounds so I wouldn't want anything much louder than it. Plus the X pipe and H pipe question come back into play. I don't know the benefits between either of them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you're gonna do longtubes, you should open up the exhaust as well. People recommend all sorts of brands, but some on the cheaper side, with the most bang for your buck are LPP and Texasspeed. Both these header set ups come with 3" y-pipes, which is i think 1/2 inch larger than OEM. No point in having it funnel down. I have the magnaflow catback with LPP LT's, and the truck has a great sound IMO. It stays quiet around idle and has a great sound starting at around 2000 rpm. There is also no highway drone.

So you are recommending to go with the headers and exhaust at the same time? If so I would only need a cat-back system if I go with the either set of headers, right? Last question, there's not much of a difference in price but one set is cheaper so is either one better than the other?

You can get the headers and do a custom system or use their y-pipe and a custom catback or use their y-pipe and a pre-built catback. This is what i have:

http://www.amazon.com/Magnaflow-156...id=1358272675&sr=8-1&keywords=magnaflow+15666

If i could go back, i would have done a custom system, but i had already purchased and installed it by the time i realized it was cheaper to do so (at the shop I had this system welded up at). one day i want to have a 1 in, 2 out, dual tip system put in.

x2 on the TexasSpeed. I personally run 2 Flowmaster 10 series mufflers, with an X-pipe and ****** Headers.

K&N cold air intake, Ceramic coated Pacesetter LT's and a Flowmaster catback system. No fitment issues and no issues with coating. Looks and sound great. If you can get a tune that will also definetly help.
