Ok well I followed Dj Trickys write up on this mod. I used a relay from advance auto some 16 gauge wire and I need to get an inline fuse.

I connected the low beam to 86, the high beam to 87, battery to 30, and ground to I believe 85. all of this was on the passenger side.
I have HIDS in both high and lows.

My low beams work fine but when I switch to high beams only the passenger low works and my drivers low does not work at all. then when I switch back to lows my driver low will not come on until I unplug and plug back in the ballast.

Why? any suggestions? was it suppost to be done on the driver side and not passenger side? I was told only one side needed to be done....

It looks like you got the high and low beam wires mixed up. The high beam wire should go to pin 86 and the low beam wire to pin 87.

So just to be clear it should be:
Pin 85 and 86(coil of relay) - High beam wire and ground
Pin 30 and 87(switch of relay) - 12V+ and low beam wire

Pins 85 and 86 are interchangeable as well as pins 30 and 87. But if there is a quenching diode across the coil of the relay you bought then the high beam wire has to go on the pin closest to the striped side of the diode (cathode).

EXACT same thing happend to my truck. You wired it correctly. The problem is when you switch low-high there is a serious voltage drop, enough to power down the ballast. And on on my truck it was always the passenger side. You need to buy a wiring harness for the hids to give it more power from the battery or run wiring yourself with another relay. That way the drop in voltage wont shut on of your Hids off.

I know it sucks haha, i was pretty P.O when it happend to mine. GL!

How would I make a wiring harness?
Would both low beam ballasts need a wiring harness?
