OK so go easy on me as I am new to the forum and have a few questions to ask those that may have any advice on what to do next.
Ok so back a few months a go when it snowed I found out that I have 4x4 issues getting my new to me 1995 Gmc Yukon to go into 4 wheel drive the shifter will go into gear but I can not get the front hubs to lock.
This is the old body style with the shifter on the floor I did some research on the trouble on the net and found out that 99% of the time it is the actuator, so I replaced it with a new unit, then I replaced the Transfer Case switch and still no 4 wheel drive, so I went a head and order & replaced the shift indicator switch in the front differential that is above the actuator and I still have no 4 wheel drive, I started trouble shooting the wiring and found no issues with the system getting the signal and yes the actuator does go in and out.
I jacked it up and put in 4 lo & 4 hi and yes the drive shaft will not turn by hand with the engine off, so then I tried it with the engine running and in gear and yes it does turn , so I moved on to the transfer case and made sure it was going into gear when shifted, so the problem is not the transfer case but in the front differential
I took the actuator out and tried pushing on the shifter fork to see if I could make it engage and could not, the plunger will move about a quater of a inch inward and we tried spinning the tire while jacked up and it will not lock in
I am now sure that something is wrong in the shifter fork area on the front differential long tube
so what I am asking have any of you ever had any issues along this line or maybe have any advice as to what to look for when I disasemble the unit, I have been turning wrenches for many years but this is my first 4x4 and was looking for any and all advice on the subject, a friend of a friend stated that it may be a broken c -clip or either a broken short axel shaft but I was just wondering if the wisdom of the group may have some heads up on what may be wrong or what to look for
so again THANKS IN ADVANCE for any and all replies
Jerry
