Im also in the 1st change early crowd. Get all the metal shavings out that missed brief turnover at factory, then go by dic. I actually try to do 1st change before 3k with this philoshopy in mind (1k). Think of your mouth after some work at the dentist; you want just 1 rinse?

I just went last week for my first Oil change at 5k on my 2016 XL.
On point with my DIC 1% .
I have to say. My first visit was painless. Thanks to my service rep.
No BS on her part. She wanted to do the tires. I told her don't touch them... she was like Cool!
In and out in 30 minutes

All those little shavings are in the oil filter or pan. Changing the oil early doesn't hurt or help that. They can't get to the bearings anyway, they are already trapped. On these vehicles its not about the dime the oil change costs. We can all afford it. Its the TIME it takes to get it done and the fact the Dealer is not being honest about the requirements. If the engine display and manual state a service interval and you choose to do it sooner because the dealer service advisor says so then you have been marketed too. PT Barnum would say people like you are born every minute. I have worked for two diesel engine manufacturers with diesel engines that say change the oil up to every 40,000 miles. I have had truck fleets that operate over 10,000 semi's. They don't change early and their engines are fine. The manufacturer, operator and oil maker all agree on the oil change interval.
If you have both the time and the money to do the change early go ahead. I just hope its because you want to and not because the dealer service advisor, who has been working there a whole 6 months, made you believe him over all the engineers at GM and the oil companies and 100 years of automotive knowledge.

That's very enlightened. Fact based thinking right there.

Thats me, you do what you like and ill do what i like......
Since you brought up diesels and other makes (semis, etc) other than chevy, for the record, i have an 08 accord commuter car (bought new) with 300,000 on it now and i run full synthetic. i change the oil between 9-12k and add a 1/2-1 quart at about 5k...i do about 150 miles a day (5 days a week..150x5=750x4=3000) which means id be changing the oil every month or so based on 3k schedule. I dont pay anyone to do it and im certainly not crawling under that car every month to change the oil.
My tahoe however, gets an oil change every 3-5k, 3 months or before and after any long trips whichever comes first and maybe, maybe it gets driven 100 miles a week.
Theres your fact based thinking right there..

Just take a small sample and send it in to Blackstone. Then you will know for sure. My new Dodge with the Cummins I dumped the oil in the first 5k. After that I took a sample and sent it in at 7500, and then again at 12k. I serviced it at 15k intervals after that. This was a freeway tower and the oil report a 15k still looked perfect. There were times I went 18-20k and the oil report still came back clean. If your running a quality long life synthetic oil like Amsoil 10-15k oil changes would be the norm. Just don't cheap out on the oil filter, again a quality filter will save you $$$ down the road. Wix, Baldwin, GM and some of the best ones unless you run Amsoil then run their filter.

Ok guys and Gals What is cheaper ? , an oil change or a new engine ? you do the math.

I remember years ago a Volvo was towed into our dealer aka stealership with a blown motor. I asked the lady when was the last time you changed the oil, she said to check with her husband. I did and he said to check with my wife. you figure it out.
