4WD conversion

Has anyone been able to or heard of taking a RWD Tahoe and changing it out with 4WD parts . I have access to a wrecked Z71 and would like to see if it's possible to take the parts needed and make my 2005 Tahoe a 4WD

Either way it may or may not be possible im not sure about the 05 tahoes but some vehicles have a different front section of the frame for rwd vs 4wd. I would take some measurements of the front frame section and snap some pictures and compare to your frame if you cant get any further information before proceeding.

In 2005 2wd Tahoes have a coil spring / shock combo. 4wd have torsion bar setup. Of course anything is possible with enough money, hell you could throw a solid front axle under there. Yes the frames are different. Its been discussed on here numerous times and no it is not worth it to do such a swap. Much easier to go from 4wd to 2wd than the other way around.

Also - They did make 2wd Z71 for a few years, so make sure the one you're looking at is actually 4wd.

I think your biggest problem would be the body control module intergration. but If I was going to do a 4X4 conversion I would do a frame swap and do it that way. Big job. If you get the whole truck that would help you big time.

The whole "wrecked" thing concerns me also. If the frame is no good on the Z71 - no dice.
